Project Rēfuse to Rĕfuse

We are a non-profit organization inspiring community

to change the way we throw things away

and foster creativity with play.

A creative ReUse center.

What’s In Store

  • We are currently in process of filing for 501(c)3 nonprofit status.
  • We are currently looking at locations to set up shop.
  • We will be a drop off spot for items anyone would otherwise throw out.
  • We will use these donated items to place in our ReUse store for others in the community to repurpose.
  • We will work with other organizations in appropriately diverting items to them for their project’s purpose.
  • We will host a diverse and wide array of classes and workshops to educate community participants on the vast creative arts in repurposing such as jewelry making, sewing, small electronic repairs and infinite creative ways we can keep things out of the landfills.
  • We will build relationships.
  • We will have fun.
  • We will share ideas.
  • We will progress.
  • We will keep things out of the landfill.
  • We will help make our part of the planet a better place.

Gratitudes

We would like to express our sincerest gratitude with the utmost respect and admiration to Sarah Goff, Co-founder of The Repurpose Project in Gainesville, FL for meeting with us and inspiring us to get our project up and running here in our area. Thank you for caring about the planet!

If you are up that way, please stop in and check out their awesome project and see all of the stuff they have been able to keep out of the landfill!

Thank you, Todd Flemister, for your logo designs.

Who started all this?!

When I was little, I wanted to be an artist. And I was actually really good. But I wasn’t able to stick with it. So I read a lot of books. And then writing became my passion. And I thought I was good at that, too.  In 7th grade, I met my favorite teacher. She made me love science through her enthusiasm for science and she would bring in slides from her summer family trips. Her slides made me want to visit the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, someday. She told us about the importance of keeping our planet beautiful. And that was the start of my life of caring about the environment.  I come from small-town, rural, Ohio in the heart of fracking and coal mining. Nobody cared about the planet. When I was 15, I did a neighborhood clean-up. I still have the scar from the tiny cut I got in the palm of my hand after trying to get mud out of a discarded jar that day. My dad seemed less-than-thrilled to load it all into his truck to take to the nearest recycle facility 20 miles away.  In between all of this, my dad had always taken us on weekend adventures to thrift stores, flea markets and auctions. My grandma was the yard sale queen.  Once I could drive myself, I would still go on those thrifting adventures. And to this day, I continue to thrift.  I’ve also remained passionate about the planet.  Buying used is great for the planet!  Pair those up with my lifelong love of art & making things and it’s a perfect recipe for this project.  I would like to share this project with our community and look forward to wonderful opportunities in creating, educating and saving with all of you.  When people refuse to refuse, we all make our world a better place.
